Perio-Prosthetic Procedures to Optimize Dental Implant Esthetics:
Risk Assessment, Clinical Applications, and Management of Complications

Successful surgical and restorative practices are well-versed in each other’s disciplines to foster clear communication and deliver high-quality implant-based restorations. As patient expectations for natural-looking results rise, the diagnostic and clinical demands on restorative and surgical teams intensify—especially in the esthetic zone where periodontal and peri-implant tissues critically influence tooth position and the final esthetic outcome. Periodontal/oral plastic surgery provides a spectrum of techniques to create and enhance soft tissue architecture around implants. This presentation illustrates the “perio-prosthetic concept” as applied in daily practice—from risk assessment to clinical application to managing complications.

Course Objectives:

  • Incorporate recently updated Esthetic Risk Assessment concepts into daily practice.
  • Understand how soft tissue phenotype impacts implant treatment planning in the esthetic zone, including when to employ Type 1 (immediate) placement.
  • Confidently apply perio-prosthetic techniques to enhance implant esthetics.
  • Understand the importance of emergence profile and peri-implant soft-tissue sculpting to the overall esthetic outcome.
  • Recognize how oral plastic surgery procedures are utilized to prevent and manage implant esthetic defects.
